Water protection

When handling substances hazardous to water, the requirements for water protection must be observed. Regardless of whether the facility is subject to the BImSchG or not, even small quantities of substances hazardous to water may require a suitability assessment in accord-ance with § 63 WHG or notification in accordance with § 40 AwSV.

For existing systems, the system documentation must be constantly updated in accordance with § 43 AwSV.

Examples of installations subject to the AwSV:

• Container or tank storage
  
• Production plant
  
• Storage container for operating and auxiliary materials
  
• Cooling circuits
  

However, the regulations of the AwSV must also be observed for the retention of extinguishing water.
